OC Transpo modifying some bus route changes due to LRT delay

Recommended Posts

OC Transpo today announced some bus route changes that will come into effect next Monday, that will help facilitate travel for passengers impacted by the September route changes (that were made in anticipation of LRT opening).

All the route changes can be found here : http://www.octranspo.com/routes/routing_changes_starting_monday_oct_15

And reaction in the media today: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/oc-transpo-bus-routes-changed-1.4854870

I'm happy to see that they are listening ot the customers and dealing with the situation, rather than ignoring the calls for improvement.

The most interesting change seems to be the Stop-Request at the eastbound Montreal Road stop. All routes will now stop on every trip, rather than only when the Stop-Request signal at the stop is activated. Not sure what rationale there is for that change. Typically people push a button while waiting for the bus and a OC sign lights up on the 174 highway, signalling to buses that people are waiting and to come off the highway to stop, rather than bypassing.

This has been the case for many many years. I can't even say when this started as it's been that long. Odd that it would suddenly change.

Anyone have any theories or know the reason?

Good DAy.

Two possibilities....

That they have had, or will have, a maintenance difficulty that is not worth repairing,

or, either inclusive or exclusive of maintenance,

that they are preparing for the Phase 2 western leg expansion construction disruptions early, on this item, to get people used to it.

Just an idea.... no facts to support.

EnJoy!
